Álvaro is situated in a privileged location marked by the rich landscape around it and the sinuous hillsides through out the whole Zêzere´s RiverSide.

The village is structured throughout a mountain crest of linear form, straight through the main road there are the following roads: Rua do Castelo; Rua Alfredo Moreira; Rua de Santo António, this Oleiro´s sub-region is situated on Oleiro´s region limit and creates a border with some other oleiros´s sub-regions such as Sobral and Amieira.

The community is of about 82 permanent inhabitants and occasionally ascends to 120 in the high season of festivities and family holidays.

The friendly and hospitable inhabitants still have a very organized everyday life based in their traditional habits and rhythms, the relationship between culture and nature is ancestral and inseparable. The natural resources that bind nature, landscape and life are very strong. The natural landscape is marked by forest, mountain and water. Nature and life is figured as an attraction.

The architectural and urbanistic character heritage exists through a very strong relationship between nature and culture, which is manifested by the framing of the construction in the territory and by the organic integration of it all.

The real estate cultural heritage goods have objective values (historical, urbanistic, architectural and artistic) and projected values (of social, symbolic and referential nature).

Álvaro is inserted in the Intervention Plan of the Schist Villages having as aims the improvement of the population lifestyle, to strengthen the regional identity, to promote the cultural heritage as a resource in the development process.
